There is a limit to your stamina bar. Running all the time will tire you out and slow you down.
Advice: Don't flee until you hear Baldi's ruler getting too close. To regain your stamina, take a safe stroll.

Look for items left in lockers or hallways:
Zesty Bar with Energy Flavour: Instantly replenishes energy.
BSODA's water stream pushes Baldi and other characters away.
